There is no such person in the world who would not be familiar with the American Jeep brand, which specializes in the production of off-road vehicles. The first car of the company, which became a real legend of the Second World War, bore the name Willys MB and was a small and light multi-purpose SUV. It was he who, after the end of the war in 1945, formed the basis of the civilian version, characterized by the presence of a folding tailgate, wipers and a gas tank cap.
Since then, the company began to confidently gain popularity, expanding its lineup with more practical and large SUVs, most of which are still in production today.
In the spring of 2014, during the Geneva Motor Show, Jeep management presented its new compact crossover, named Renegade, to the world public. The novelty immediately attracted the attention of the public not only by its original name, which translates as apostate (traitor), but also by its rather extravagant appearance. According to official figures, the crossover is based on the SCCS platform, which Renegade shares with the Italian Fiat 500L. Moreover, it was at the Fiat plant that the assembly of the new item was established.
It is also worth emphasizing that the crossover has become a global model of the company, which is sold in more than 100 countries around the world, including Russia.
It is curious that the true fans of the Jeep brand were skeptical about the appearance of the Renegade, which is based on the Italian subcompact, but in fact the Renegade is a real Jeep, possessing all the necessary attributes of a real SUV, but more on that later.
Jeep Renegade Exterior
Credit goes to the designers who have gone to great lengths to keep the classic Jeep true to its roots in the legendary Willys. So, the front of the car received branded round headlights and a vertical false radiator grille, which allow you to instantly identify the manufacturer.
Separately, it is worth highlighting the presence of an original hump on the hood, as well as a stylish plastic bumper with a built-in air intake, running lights and foglights.
When looking at the profile of the car, one can distinguish the presence of blown wheel arches, a plastic body kit, a straight roofline and an almost vertical stern, which makes the car more brutal. The monumental rear end of the Jeep Renegade looks no less original, with a massive rear bumper, a massive tailgate, a double exhaust pipe and stylish square marker lights.
The crossover has the following dimensions:

In the classic version, the vehicle's ground clearance is 200 mm, but if desired, the buyer can order a special version of the Trailhawk, offering a ground clearance of 220 mm, as well as better geometric possibilities.
Ultimately, the exterior of the novelty proudly proclaims with all its appearance that we are facing not just another "sugary" crossover, but a real crossover SUV, capable of storming off-road with ease and feeling confident on rough terrain.
Interior Jeep Renegade
The interior of the Jeep Renegade echoes its exterior and looks stylish and modern. The architecture of the front dashboard is somewhat reminiscent of that of the Fiat 500L, but Jeep's designers have done everything possible to keep the similarity to a minimum.
Directly in front of the driver is a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, as well as a well-read instrument panel, represented by two large speed and tachometer dials, between which there is a 7-inch on-board computer screen.
The original center console received a stylish multimedia system unit with a 5 or 6.5-inch display and an original microclimate control unit, represented by three round spinners. Special thanks to the designers and constructors for the use of high quality finishing materials and the presence of color inserts that echo the color of the car body.
Ergonomics of the workplace is at a height - all the knobs and buttons are exactly where you expect to see them.
The front seats are moderately comfortable and have tangible lateral support, and the presence of adjustments allows the driver of any size to sit comfortably.
Despite the rather modest external dimensions, on the second row of seats, there is enough free space in length, width and height to comfortably accommodate three adult passengers.
The boot volume when stowed offers 350 liters of storage space, which can be expanded to 870 liters by folding the second row seats. Especially for the transportation of oversized cargo, the length of which exceeds 1.5 m, it is possible to fold the back of the front seat.
In general, the Jeep Renegade interior leaves a positive impression not only due to the original architecture and rich equipment, but also to high-quality materials and good fit of parts.
Specifications Jeep Renegade 2015
As mentioned earlier, the car is based on the SCCS platform. True, unlike the Fiat 500L, the Renegade is distinguished by the presence of a unique independent suspension, represented by the MacPherson and Chapman struts, front and rear, respectively. The basic car is equipped with front-wheel drive, and as an option, the buyer can order the installation of a plug-in 4-wheel drive system - Active Drive with the function of switching driving modes Selec-Terrain.
In the top version of the Trailhawk, the car is additionally endowed with a locking center differential, a special reduction gear that makes it easier to descend from a hill, and an additional "rocks-rocks" driving mode. All wheels are equipped with disc brakes, and the steering wheel is equipped with electric power assistance.
The line of Jeep "Renegade" engines is represented by 7 power units, 4 of which are gasoline, and the remaining three are diesel engines. Gasoline engines are presented:
- Two turbocharged 1.4-liter engines with 140 and 170 hp. In a more powerful version, acceleration from 0 to 100 is 8.8 seconds, and fuel consumption varies within 5.8-6.2 l / 100 km;
- 1.6-liter 110-horsepower engine, accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 11.8 seconds. and consuming at the same time about 6 l / 100 km in the combined cycle;
- 2.4-liter 184-horsepower gasoline engine capable of accelerating to 100 km in 9 seconds and a top speed of 200 km / h. In this version, the car consumes an average of about 8.2 l / 100 km.
Diesel modifications are presented:
- 1.6-liter 120-horsepower engine;
- Two 2-liter power units with a return of 140 and 170 hp.
Diesel engines are distinguished by high efficiency and good dynamic characteristics, but, unfortunately, no diesel engines will be supplied to Russia.
Depending on the region, the car will be offered with a 5-level manual transmission, as well as 6 and 9-level "automatic". According to the manufacturer, the crossover can overcome a ford up to 480 mm deep, which makes it one of the most passable cars in the class. Throw in minimal front and rear overhangs and you have an almost complete classic SUV.
Renegade safety
The new Jeep Renegade delivers high levels of driver and passenger safety with more than 60 different systems, including a first-in-class Collision Warning and Lane Departure Alert. In addition, the car is equipped with:
- Frontal collision avoidance system;
- A system responsible for monitoring the "dead" zones of the machine and warning about the intersection of the trajectory with other objects when reversing;
- Adaptive cruise control;
- Rear view camera with dynamic markings;
- Immobilizer and keyless entry system;
- A system that holds the machine on a slope;
- Help system during the descent from the hill;
- Three pairs of airbags;

All the systems available in the car make it possible to call the Jeep Renegade one of the safest in the class, which means that the car can safely claim the role of a family car.

In the Russian market, the compact crossover is offered in four versions: Sport, Longitude, Limited and Trailhawk. The basic version will cost the buyer at least 24.3 thousand dollars (1.51 million rubles) and will be able to offer the following equipment:

Jeep Renegade at first glance seems to be a simple and friendly car, but it is worth getting to know it better, and it fully reveals its capabilities, allowing you to safely call it an almost full-fledged SUV. The car offers a high-quality interior, a rich list of equipment and a high level of safety.
