In mid-February 2018, BMW showed the second generation of the X4 premium all-wheel drive crossover, which received the in-plant index "G02". The official debut of the novelty took place a month later during the annual Geneva Motor Show.
Like the previous generation, the new BMW X4 combines a stylish coupé-like exterior with a luxurious interior and excellent ride quality... At the same time, the car noticeably matured, tried on a modernized interior and received an expanded list of equipment, not to mention the technical stuffing, where the main innovation was the emergence of a high-performance modification "M40d".
Inside the company, they note that the new product is primarily aimed at family men with one or more children, as well as preaching an active lifestyle.
Exterior BMW X4 M40d
The second generation BMW X4 pleases the eye with attractive, modern and fast-paced body lines, which, although not mesmerizing, attract attention instantly.
"Muzzle" of the crossover demonstrates the predatory look of the head optics, the embossed hood, the branded "nostrils" of the false radiator grille and the muscular front bumper with several large sections of air intakes and built-in fog lights.
Vehicle profile is represented by a long bonnet, sloping roofline, as well as stylish embossing on the side doors and rounded-square wheel arches.
It is also worth noting the presence of a branded nameplate "M-power" and "gills" of the air ducts, located immediately behind the front arches.
Powerful premium crossover feed eye-catching stylish side lights with full LED filling, a large tailgate, on which the name of the model and its version, as well as a massive rear bumper, which houses a sports diffuser and a pair of large "trunks" of the exhaust system.

The length of the wheelbase fits into the 2.864 m mark, while the vehicle's ground clearance is 204 mm, which allows the driver to feel confident both when moving around the city and while driving on country roads.
As in the case of the previous generation of the model, the novelty offers a wide palette of body colors and several variations of the design of the rims, which in the M40d version are shod with low-profile tires.
BMW X4 interior
The interior of the second generation BMW X4, traditionally for cars of the Bavarian brand, looks laconic, stylish and modern. In addition, the salon is able to boast of excellent build quality, the highest level of ergonomics and first-class finishing materials, including: genuine leather, soft plastics, aluminum, alcantara and carbon fiber.
The driver's seat is represented by a branded multifunctional "steering wheel" with a nameplate "M-power" and a fully digital instrument panel. The central part of the dashboard is represented by a 10.25-inch screen of the multimedia center, as well as laconic control units for the audio system and the interior climate.
One of the distinguishing features of the M40d version is the presence of contrasting red stitching found on the front dashboard, side doors, center console and seats.
First row passengers the manufacturer has prepared comfortable and ergonomic chairs that have received a large number of adjustments, pronounced lateral support and all kinds of benefits of civilization.
Between the seats is a high transmission tunnel, on which a wide armrest is installed, in the depths of which there is a spacious niche for small items, as well as a gearshift selector, a parking brake button, a platform for wireless charging of mobile devices and a proprietary washer of the iDrive system.
Second row riders a comfortable rear sofa is offered, on which even three adult passengers can easily fit. Of the available amenities, rear passengers received reclining backrests, a folding center armrest and a separate air duct unit.
In the five-seater version of the salon trunk volume is equal to 525 liters, and if you fold the backs of the rear sofa (proportion 40-20-40), the owner gets an impressive 1430 liters of loading space, which is 30 liters more than the car of the first generation.
It is also worth noting that the lowered backs of the second row of seats form a flat floor, and in the trunk underground there was a place for a set of tools and a small organizer.
2019 BMW X4 M40d Specifications
Before proceeding with an overview of the technical capabilities of the BMW X4 M40d modification, we recall that in addition to it, the car is available with 6 more different versions of power plants, including three gasoline engines and three diesel engines.
The M40d version received at its disposal a 3-liter turbodiesel capable of developing a peak 680 Nm of thrust and 326 "horses" available at 1750-2250 and 4400 rpm. With it, an almost two-ton crossover is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 in just 4.9 seconds, and also develop a maximum speed limited by an electronic "collar" at around 250 km / h.
According to passport data, the combined fuel consumption is 6.4-6.6 liters for every 100 km of the distance traveled, while in the city the car consumes about 7.4 liters / 100 km.
Regardless of the type and power of the power plant, the car is equipped with a proprietary all-wheel drive xDrive transmission and an uncontested 8-band automatic transmission.
The new X4 is built on the CLAR proprietary bogie with a longitudinally-mounted engine and extensive use of heavy-duty steel and aluminum grades.
Both the front and rear axles are independent suspension with anti-roll bars, with a double-wishbone design in the front and a multi-link in the rear. In addition, the M version is equipped with a rear limited-slip differential, adaptive suspension and electronically controlled dampers.
The steering is represented by a rack and pinion mechanism and an active electric booster, while high-performance brakes with a ventilation system "in a circle" are responsible for braking.

BMW models have long established themselves as some of the safest vehicles in their class, and the new BMW X4 M40d is no exception. The list of proposed security systems for it includes:

It is also important to highlight the fact of the presence of programmed crumple zones, the main task of which is to distribute the force of impact during frontal and lateral accidents along the entire perimeter of the body, thereby reducing possible damage to the passengers in the cabin.

Unfortunately, at present, the BMW X4 M40d version is not presented in Russia, and there is no information about whether it should be expected to appear on the domestic market in the future. But in the home market of Germany, the car is offered at a price of 70.9 thousand euros, which is equivalent to 5.6 million Russian rubles.
