Now there will be no Phaeton. VW decided that the model was not worth it, decided to cut the lineup and is now trying to fill the hole with the Passat B8. The new generation of the sedan definitely surpasses the past in everything.

The eighth generation still looks reserved. However, very easily perceptible notes of solidity and representativeness appeared here. The headlights have an adaptive basis, of course, in the options, and matrix LEDs are used as light sources. The head optics itself is part of the radiator grille, which is also designed in a corporate style.

Another point that I would like to draw your attention to is the bumper. Now it has small fog lights, and the rest of the space is given to a wide air intake. The small lip-shaped lower edge emphasizes that the car is not "vegetable".

In profile, this is still the same Passat, like those 30 million Passats that have been sold in the entire history of the model. However, now a certain height, attractiveness and beauty can be seen in it. Wide doors with tilted pillars, a slight curvature of the rear door glass, as well as a chrome frame of the glass line - all this indicates that the Passat has grown. And, on the contrary, not the way it happens. Most often, the model grows on paper, like, for example, the indices for BMW, but here the model has remained in the same class, while visually, and in all other parameters, it has become higher.

The rear end looks even more solid than the front, it combines the high cost of Audi and the practicality of Skoda. The boot lid looks a bit empty, like on the Polo Sedan, but that makes the exterior look even more stylish. This is also emphasized by the narrow tailpipes of the exhaust system with duplicate fog lights.

However, this does not look like a forced measure, everything is beautiful, stylish, sustained in harsh colors, and modernity is perfectly combined with practicality and traditions. In order to emphasize that the new Passat is a replacement for Faeton, the well-known clock, which, oddly enough, is quartz, is installed in the center of the panel. The steering wheel is truncated at the bottom, it is trimmed with leather already in the base. The center console is almost entirely occupied by the display of the audio system and navigation, if any. In the first case, it is a 5 "diagonal, in the second - 8". The rear sofa has become much more spacious. Compared to the previous generation, the length of the wheelbase has grown by 8 cm, all of which went to the salon. Formally, the sofa is three-seater, however, it is molded in the form of two separate armchairs that can be separated using a wide armrest with cup holder functions. This armrest can be used as a hatch by slipping some long weights into it, such as skis. Running ahead, a cover is offered as an option - a bag that allows you to do the above without staining the interior.

I would especially like to mention some systems. For example, a lane control system. She, for example, return the car to its lane, if there are markings, if the turn was not included in advance. Three power units are offered on the Russian market, among which there is no coveted 280-horsepower, which is the pride of the company. It was he who became the most powerful 4-cylinder engine in the history of the company. But it's not about him. The base is installed 1.4 liters with a turbine, gasoline. A distinctive feature of such an engine from the previous one is also the fact that only a robotic DSG-7 box is installed on it, and for the first only mechanics are available.

And finally, the third, top-end motor. It is increased to 1.8 liters, develops 180 horses, while the torque is 320 Nm. Despite the fact that the dynamics are much better (7 seconds about hundreds, the maximum speed is 232 km / h), the fuel consumption remained practically the same. So, on the highway for a hundred kilometers, about 5.8 liters will be required, and around the city about 7.

Now let's see what we can get for 2.4 million rubles from other manufacturers. First of all, I would like to mention the Ford Mondeo.
