During the 2018 Geneva Motor Show, Skoda unveiled its new concept car, codenamed Skoda Vision X Concept. According to insider information, the novelty is a harbinger of the most compact crossover in the history of the Skoda brand, which should appear on the world stage in the first half of 2019.

At the moment, there is no exact information about what name the serial version of the compact crossover should receive, but the Czechs have at least 3 registered names in stock - Amiq, Anuq and Karuq. However, no one excludes the possibility that the production version of the Skoda Vision X Concept may receive a completely different name, which can be registered with the relevant authorities right now.

In the meantime, everyone around is arguing about the future name of the model, let's talk about the parameters and features of the new item that Skoda representatives shared.

Exterior Skoda Vision X Concept

The Czech designers should be given their due - the new Vision X concept has an extremely expressive, attractive and futuristic appearance.

"Muzzle" concept crossover It is represented by two-story LED optics, a large false radiator grille, richly trimmed with chrome, an embossed hood and a stylish front bumper with a wide air intake section and a kind of front splitter.

Vehicle profile exhibits a large number of design "chips", including huge wheel arches, chopped sidewall edges, a high window sill line, as well as touch-sensitive door opening handles and a sloping roofline. In addition, the crossover sports plastic protection around the body and roof rails.

Concept feed of the Vision X, which is extremely rare, looks even more attractive than the front of the body, which is the merit of a massive rear bumper with integrated exhaust pipes, a compact tailgate and chic two-level side lights, which have received full LED filling.

The interior of the conceptual Vision X

The interior design is represented by the modern architecture of the front dashboard, previously not seen on any Skoda car, as well as first-class finishing materials, including high-quality fabric, soft plastics, eco-leather and special rubber.

As the manufacturer himself notes, the materials were selected in such a way that they were easy and quick to clean - a fat "plus" in the piggy bank of the practicality of the car. In the top-end versions, the interior of the car can receive decorative inserts made of aluminum or carbon.

Directly in front of the "pilot" of the vehicle is an attractive multifunction steering wheel with a sporty cut lower rim, as well as a fully digital instrument cluster. In the central part of the front dashboard, there is a widescreen display of the multimedia and entertainment complex, through which all major car systems are controlled, including music and air conditioning.

It is also worth noting that the main feature of the front dashboard is the complete absence of mechanical buttons and switches.

For front passengers we offer stylish and at the same time original sports seats with good lateral support and a sufficient number of adjustments. A high transmission tunnel runs between the seats.

Second row of seats represented by two free-standing seats, providing no less comfort level than the seats of the first row of riders. There is also a high transmission tunnel between them, which acts as an armrest.

Trunk volume, according to preliminary information, will be 380 liters. Among the features of the luggage compartment are pre-installed mounts for mounting skateboards and a special "parking space" for a quadcopter, which hints at a youth target audience and / or people leading an active lifestyle.

Speaking about the features of the Vision X Concept, one cannot fail to mention that the novelty was the first four-wheel drive car of the Czech brand, which does not use a propeller shaft.

Under the hood of the concept car, a modern turbocharged 1.5-liter engine of the TSI G-TEC series is installed (according to the manufacturer, such an engine can operate both on gasoline fuel and on natural gas), a pair of which is made up of two electric motors powered by 48- volt electrical network.

The first electric motor acts as a starter-generator, while the second drives the wheels of the rear axle. The company proudly notes that, if necessary, the car is able to move completely on electric traction, although the maximum travel distance will not exceed 3 km (not a lot, but it may still change with the release of the serial modification).

It is noted that future owners will be able to choose one of three modes of movement:

• by means of a front axle drive (only a gasoline engine works);
• four-wheel drive (a gasoline engine is paired with a pair of electric motors);
• by means of a rear axle drive (only the rear electric motor operates).

According to preliminary data, the concept Skoda Vision X needs 9.3 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100, while the maximum possible speed is 200 km / h.

It is curious that with a fully filled gas tank and two gas cylinders filled, the car is able to overcome over 650 km, but the manufacturer decided not to disclose such an indicator as fuel consumption.

It is not difficult to assume that the steering will be supplemented with an electric booster, and the braking system will receive disc brakes on all wheels (front with ventilation). In addition, there is no doubt that the manufacturer will equip the crossover with a whole arsenal of modern "assistants".

Despite the fact that the manufacturer decided not to disclose information about the security systems that will be on board the serial Skoda Vision X, it is easy to guess that the novelty will receive all the latest developments of the company.

The expected security systems include:

• Disc brakes on both axles;
• Tracking system for the pressure inside the tires;
• Sensors for monitoring "dead" zones and "pilot" fatigue;

It is expected that the production version of the Skoda Vision X Concept will be officially presented in the spring of 2019, and its estimated cost will start from 18 thousand euros (about 1.33 thousand rubles) for the basic version.

The Skoda Vision X Concept is a striking, original and extremely stylish concept car that demonstrates the direction of the further development of the Czech brand.

Of course, the production version of the car may lose most of the "chips" of the concept, but even if some of them get to the production model, the Skoda Vision X has every chance of becoming a significant player in its class and in its price category, displacing more expensive and technologically advanced competitors.
